Shutout

So far, bipartisanship is not paying off.

Zero Republicans crossed the aisle, even after Team BO made concessions.

Obviously, the Senate works their magic, and then it goes to conference, so ultimately, Republicans may change their votes later.

But symbolically, this was a blow to Obama’s idealistic conception of how Washington should work.

That said, why should I complain? As Nate Silver writes today, the GOP seems to be continuing it’s “death spiral” from the election, completely oblivious to both the mood of the country, as well as the statistical realities in politics.

The concern, of course, is if this is going to be the GOP strategy, why give away anything at all? Over at TAPPED, Tim Fernholz answers this question, although I would disagree with the efficacy of what he’s saying.
