Back in October, the Obama campaign said that Obama would filibuster any bill providing telco immunity:
“To be clear: Barack will support a filibuster of any bill that includes retroactive immunity for telecommunications companies.”
It couldn’t get much more clear than that. They even used the word “clear”. (One would hope that by “support” they meant “participate in”…)
Now, Obama is backing down. He says that he will “work … to remove [the telco immunity] provision”, but that he will vote for the bill even if he fails to remove the telco immunity provision.
Senators Feingold and Dodd are strongly criticizing the bill, and hinting at a filibuster.
MoveOn is urging people to call the Obama campaign and tell them that we expect Obama to live up to his campaign promises. They offer a good overview of the situation, with references.
